TOPIC: News & news-agencies
Class
11c - Today's assignments
Well folks, something
different today. Your task is to do the research for a
newspaper article. Work together with a partner, please,
and decide on the sort of news you are looking for:
Sports, International Affairs, Culture, Politics, Film,
Technology, etc.
Then see what's really
new by having a look at
different sources of information:
http://www.reuters.com/news
http://dailynews.yahoo.com
http://headlines.yahoo.com/Full_Coverage/
http://news.bbc.co.uk/
http://www.cnn.com/
Decide on a topic and
prepare the article, concentrating on finding answers to
the W-questions. You might want to follow the links of
some of the web-pages above to get more detailed
information etc., just go ahead but don't forget: At the
end of today's double-period you should have sufficient
material to write the article at home (type it, if
possible)! Please, use your English and don't only use
the sentences you found on the web. The basic idea is to
write a newspaper article for your class-mates as
readers. They should be able to understand it, so you can
add some vocab explanations (in English, of course...).
Next week Tuesday I
would like to give you the chance to improve your
article: Sit together with your partner and read the
articles out to each other, trying to improve them
(vocab, sentence structure, etc.). Make sure it's a
decent and serious one (quality paper!). After you've
improved your articles on Tuesday, please write a
different one in class: This time you are allowed to
take the same topic and material to transform it into
an article which might appear in THE SUN or a similar
sensational paper! Finish it at home and bring it in
on Wednesday next week, OK?
P.S.: Those
with access to the Internet, could you have a look in one
of the online-newspapers on Thursday to see which of the
topics you worked on is covered there with an article?
