T. C. Boyle - A digital scrap-book about "The Tortilla Curtain"
Summary
The book "The Tortilla Curtain" written by T. C. Boyle is about the conflict between US citizens and illegal immigrants from Mexico.
The lives of the prosperous family Mossbacher and of the Mexicans Cándido and América collide when Delaney Mossbacher knocks down Cándido with his car. From this point on their lives get out of control. Delaney, who calls himself a liberal humanist, shows more and more racist traits. Cándido and his pregnant wife América have to learn that the American Dream is not real, both have to fight to survive and América has to give birth to her baby in a shed near a great fire. Finally, when the racism increases and D. Mossbacher stands in front of them with a gun, the catastrophe happens. Their baby dies in a landslide. But nevertheless, Cándido and América, who saved themselves, are able to help Delaney Mossbacher.
