Learning English with the World Wide Web

Using the Internet and especially the WWW in English lessons is motivating as well for pupils as for teachers. The real challenges of integrating the Web into the class-room appear when we think about how learning English can take place when using the Internet. This seminar is based on interest and active participation of the students when examples of web-projects will be evaluated (and planned) and theories of constructivism and autonomous learning have to be considered.

You have to know how to to work with the Internet already and you are expected to invest some time and individual web-research to turn this seminar into a rewarding experience.

General aim:

Developping learning strategies for the Web - or: how can learning English take place when using the Internet

Aims of the first session on April 27th, 2000

how to cope with room A 3 1-106 to be found in the  ZEF (Herr Bernath)

Overview: Using the Web when teaching English today - or: What I can offer on my website:

http://www.englisch.schule.de/reinhard.htm

Ideas for this seminar:

what - why - how - what for .... and how does learning take place? What is learnt, how is it learnt, can it be trained, can it be tested, is it really useful, helpful, necessary?

task for the next session: getting an overview about various demands from different institutions, persons, etc. between 1997 and 2000. Question: Why is it necessary that schools integrate the Internet into their teaching? Please use these links:

http://www.englisch.schule.de/wwwakt.htm  (if links don't exist any longer, try to use search-engines to find the texts again)

Please read this Kritik der Zeit-Autorin vom 30. 3. 2000  together with a speech delivered by  Bernd Rüschoff (Didaktik Uni Essen) in 1996. On this background you are asked to write a letter to the editor of DIE ZEIT by email. I am waiting for your ideas, thoughts and reasons, so please mail me your letter to the editor...
