We had to read a novel in year eleven, but which one? The class chose (from only two possible books)Douglas Adams's "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". We did all the usual work, charactersisations, interpretations, vocab work, opinions, some creative jobs... A lot of it was in the traditional fashion in the classroom, but occasionally we used the internet for some research. Everyone knew before we started that at the end there should be a presentation on the internet, and luckily most pupils worked seriously, ending up with several assignments.

Throughout the whole process, everybody could check up on what we had done so far and which jobs they had to do on the website I created for this project.

Some things got lost in the process, due to pupils dropping out (we ended up with 19 pupils, having started the year with a higher number) or to the ensuing chaos when we actually created the website. So please, don't be too hard with your judgement. We are proud of the result (although some pupils might have cursed the whole idea once we got down to the serious work:-)).

Thanks to all the pupils who put a lot of work into it, some more than others;-). Thanks, too, to Daniel for the general design!

This is how we started: On a windy and rainy East Frisian spring day, standing in the school's football field and trying to see stars, planets etc., talking about the galaxy... (and of course, the digital camera and the computer coloured the faces blue, which was not intended!)...

wet and windy - East Frisia at its best!
