Summary
The book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" was written by Douglas Adams. It deals with a journey through the galaxy.
At the beginning of the story the earth is about to be destroyed by the Vogons because they want to build an intergalactic bypass. Ford Prefect, who is an alien, knows of the plan of the vogons and hitchikes with his human friend Arthur Dent on a spaceship of the Vogons. The Vogons throw them out of their spaceship and then they are rescued by the "Heart of Gold" a new spaceship, which has been stolen by Zaphod Beeblebrox. They travel with the spaceship to the lost planet Magrathea and land on the planet to find out something about it. They find a way into the planet and during Zaphod, his girlfriend Trillian and Ford go into the planet Arthur and a robot called Marvin wait in front of the way in. Arthur meets a man named Slartibartfast, who tells him that mice are the most intelligent lifeforms on earth and that the earth and its people have formed the matrix of an organic computer running a ten million year research program. The earth has been built on Magrathea. The mice want the answer to the question of life, universe and everything. But before they could find out the answer the earth is destroyed by the Vogons. Then Arthur and the others, who has been passed out in the planet by gas, are brought to the mice, who want Arthur's brain because they think that in Arthur's brain they will find the answer to the ultimate question. Arthur, Ford and the others escape and drive with an aircar to the "Heart of Gold" where they meet Marvin. Then they fly with the "Heart of Gold" to a restaurant at the end of the universe.
